What was poe trying to achieve with the raven?

Funny thing about that: Poe wrote an essay called "The Philosophy of Composition" in which he tries to explain exactly what he was trying to achieve and how he used the composition of The Raven to make that achievement. It's a little hard to read, but not bad. Good luck.
