I need help finding a great book to read. Help?

I'm finding it very difficult to finish any book I start so I'm obviously poking around in the wrong place and need direction. I've read The Iliad and Odyssey completely which I adored. I looooove poetry and also find Poe easy for me to pay attention to. I want to start with a clic/well known author to delve into the world of literature, love it, then wander down my own path. I've tried reading so many books but find myself frustrated because I hate how the author writes, or just find the book boring. For example, I just read 20 pages of "A million little pieces" and I'm sitting here wishing I'd have stared off at the wall instead. Books that involve a lot of repetition (walking in circles) and talk about the same thing for 20 pages don't really strike me as awesome. I like a lot of good word play for an ever-growing vocabulary as well. Please, please help I am stuck in a rut! Thanks in advance!
